Hey there! I'm Niels, guitarplayer of KATAFALK since july 2003 I'm
metalhead since the age of 12. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth and
Slayer were the bands who helped me getting addicted to metal for life.
Then I discovered bands like Sepultura, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Deicide,
CannibaI Corpse and Death (RIP). Those bands (and lots and lots others)
showed me clearly that death metal would be my favourite style of metal!
I'm living in Groningen since October 2002. Before I moved over I played
guitar in Prostitute Disfigurement (freaking death metal from the South
of Holland). I think it's great to play in Katafalk because the music
is brutal and melodic at the same time. I started my career in Katafalk
as a vocalist in November 2002 and since July 2003 I play guitar in
Katafalk (original vocalist Wokkel taking over vocal duties again).
I'm very thankful to Katafalk for giving me the opportunity to play
guitar now and for truly giving me the feeling I'm part of the band!
Don't get me wrong, it's great to growl and scream your lungs out, but
playing guitar is more my way of making metal! I play guitar since the
age of 16. I am most inspired by guitarists who play killer riffs and
leads (especially when they are playing in the same band and duelling
with each others!). To give a few names: Dave Murray vs Adrian Smith,
Dave Mustaine vs Marty Friendman, Jeff Hanneman vs Kerry King, Christopher
vs Michael Amott, Chuck Schuldiner vs Andy laRoque, Trey Azagthoth vs
Erik Rutan etc. And the individuals: Diamond Darrell, Jeff Loomis, Yngwie
Malmsteen, James Murphy, Michael Romeo, Jeff Waters, Zakk Wylde, Alexi
"Wildchild" Laiho... etc. These artists force me to practice day in,
day out. I hope there will come a day I'm on the same level as these
guitar-monsters, until that time I will dream on... To get back on Katafalk,
I think we are stronger than ever and this line-up is the best ever!
We are ready to kick your ass and give you Hell on Earth! So beware...
